NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) - Two New Haven men were arrested after police say they began shooting at each other over a girl's pictures on the social media site Instagram.
Police were called to the area of 196 Dover Street around 3:45 Thursday afternoon for a report of two men who were shooting at each other. 22-year-old Dashuan Bowes-Ware of Dover Street and a 17-year-old suspect who lives on Peck Street, were arrested.
Police say upon interviewing the suspects, Bowes-Ware told them he armed himself after the teenager threatened to shoot him. He told police the argument stemmed from when a girl's pictures surfaced on Instagram.
Police found bullet casings and a Ruger .380 pistol. Bowes-Ware told police the gun was not his. He did admit to carrying and firing his own gun and told officers where he had hit it. Police were able to locate his Sig Sauer P229 9mm handgun.
The teenager told police he had only been in possession of a BB gun and that he tossed it when he saw police closing in on him. Detectives did not find that gun.
Both were charged with criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment in the first degree.
The teen was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport. Bowes-Ware was taken to the Union Avenue Detention Center.
Police say they are expecting to make more arrests.
