Tumblr Downloader Professional lets you download Tumblr images in bulk

One of the things that the blogging platform Tumblr is known for is the vast amount of image blogs that it hosts on its servers. If you ever did a picture search on Tumblr, you know that you find a wide variety of photo blogs on the site, from blogs that showcase animals to sports and, yes, adult themes.

While it is possible to download interesting images manually using the controls your web browser makes available, it is not something that is suitable for bulk downloads.

Say, you like a series of images that got posted to a particular Tumblr blog. Instead of downloading each image with a right-click on it and the selection of the save option, you may want to download them all at once.

This is possible, but not without the help of extensions or programs. As far as programs go, there is nothing better than Bulk Image Downloader in my opinion. While not free, it is worth every cent if you want to download large image quantities regularly.

Firefox users can use a variety of addons for the browser on the other hand that offer automation as well. Not as comfortable as Bulk Image Downloader, but close enough for many cases.

Tumblr Downloader Professional is a new extension for Firefox (and also Google Chrome apparently) that helps you significantly. The extension installation adds an icon to Firefox's main toolbar that triggers the search and downloading options.

Both extensions seem to work the same way. The Firefox addon was used for the following review.

You can enter any search term that you are interested in, e.g. dogs or soccer, which will load a search results page in the active tab.

Tip: Press Ctr-T to open a new tab before you invoke the search.

Search results are displayed with images already, but the real power of the extension comes to light when you open a Tumblr blog in Firefox.

You can click on the add-on and select the show pictures in table option or right-click on the page and select the same option to display a photo stream of all images that have been posted to the blog.

Controls at the top of the page provide you with several options. You can select all images on the page for instance and hit the save button to download them all to your local system.

Or, you can select only some images by clicking into circles placed on the previews to only download those images instead.

Each image is shown as a preview highlighting its full resolution. Other options the addon provides you with include switching to another Tumblr blog that you have visited in the past, searching for pictures, showing pictures in full resolution, or remembering those pictures so that you can re-open them at a later point in time.

Closing Words

If you like to download images that are posted to Tumblr blogs, or want to begin doing so, you can save lots of time by installing the Tumblr Downloader Professional extension for the Firefox web browser.
