Youtube comment integration with Google plus: How it has been received

Not many decisions made by team Google have drawn the amount of criticism created by the integration of Google+ into the YouTube comment feature. YouTube for a long time has been the number one destination for the video surfers. It was easy to anonymously watch and rate (like or dislike) a video. There was no need to be connected to your social circle and many people enjoyed that kind of no tracking experience. Sure it rendered few abusive and derogatory comments but overall it resulted in an open culture of sharing views and opinions.

After trying to facilitate a shift of the users from the random name chosen to browse YouTube to a name similar to their own, repeatedly for a few months, the reason for the insistence became clear as the Google+ integration was made mandatory. Though, according to the company this is done so that the posts from video creators, notable personalities and people from your friend circle appear on the top but the question is that how many people frankly want that?

Many of us, I admit myself being a part of that group, enjoy scrolling down and seeing the most popular and most unpopular comment that may be from a total stranger. It's sometimes hilarious.

The resentment for this change is clear as even the co-founder of Youtube Jawed Karim expressed dissatisfaction with this feature and removed all his videos in protest. Others, like blogger Vi Hart, feel that Google is trying to ruin a successful platform to populate a social network that already has way stronger competitors. He also pointed out that the shift towards integration with Google+ is particularly uncomfortable to the channel owners for multitude of subscribers would have liked to keep their Google+ page more personal. Of course, people who rely on YouTube for revenues through channels have no other option but to cooperate because as Lindsey Turrentine stated that you can't escape Google.

After all, for everything that is important, you are going to hit back these platforms and at the most one can protest but well, we will have to budge in for the lack of alternatives. Still, the petitions with 112,000 signatures are being signed and that certainly sends out a strong message that people don't like being forced into something. It has been eight days and people are still ablaze and seeking alternatives like Reddit and if you want to have a good laugh you can browse through the ever growing resentment comments on the very own Google's video about the release of this comment feature.
