Imagine using your current digital camera (or iPhone, for that matter) 30 years from now. The folks at Ilott have another suggestion: Take pictures with their lovingly restored, vintage, manual 35mm rangefinder cameras, striking and tested through time.
The Miami-based company is founded on the admittedly romanticized ideal of preelectronic photography. You remember, don't you? That time before Instagram's Amaro and X-Pro II, when it took practice and skill to compose a perfect photo.
With each recovered camera-say, a 1939 Argus C3-founder Andrew Bellamy and his team go to work replacing tension springs, repairing and cleaning dozens of cogs. They replace cracked leather shells with durable wood veneers tailored to each camera and then turn it over to a new owner-the owner for the next few decades, at least.
Prices range from $1,875 to $2,225.
