When Tumblr CEO David Karp agreed to let Yahoo! purchase his company, we're sure he thought there were going to be some changes down the road. Maybe he didn't anticipate two of his biggest employees leaving after the acquisition. Now, a third one has left as well.
Christopher Price, the Editorial Director and Tumblr, who had been a part of the company since a week after it launched, just announced he is leaving (and doesn't know what he'll be doing next). He joins Creative Director Jacob Bijani and Media Director Mark Coatney as the three high profile employees who have jumped ship in the past few months.
As Price writes in a blog post about his departure:
Precisely 1,540 days ago, I walked into a small office in Manhattan, oblivious to the incredible journey that I was about to take. Today, my decision to leave becomes officially official. Joining Tumblr (both as a user and later on as an employee) will end up being one of the best decisions of my entire life. I'm thankful beyond words for the opportunities. The team at Tumblr consists of some of the smartest, most creative, funniest, kindest, and most punctual people I've ever known, and can't wait to see what they come up with next for this website that I love. Whats next for me: I have no idea! But I know I'm just getting started. (See you again in a few minutes when I make another post.)
As Price was a major employee so early on for Tumblr, he probably made a bunch of money when Yahoo! bought the company for $1 billion: he likely earned $6.2 million. On to greener pastures.
