Celebrities Who Nearly Broke Instagram ...

In the current state of media and technology, news travels faster than ever before. One picture released via Twitter/Instagram by a celebrity reaches the farthest corners of the internet at lightning velocity. In the following article, we list 10 celebrities who captured the collective imagination of the Instagram world just by releasing a single photo. Check it out below ...

Kendall Jenner

When it comes to running the world of reality television, there is no family that does it better than the Kardashians. Even though it's mostly Kim, Khloe and Kourtney we hear about in the news, the new generation of Kylie and Kendall (their half-sisters) are starting to make a huge splash on the scene. Kendall Jenner caused a humongous wave on Instagram this past May when she posted a sexy picture of herself on Instagram in a racy nightclub outfit showing some serious side boob. The caption on the picture was 'A little side boob never hurt nobody.' The picture was a huge sensation on the internet and got over 500,000 likes. Who knew a little flash of breasts could generate so much frenzy?

Nicki Minaj

Hip-Hop Queen of the moment Nicki Minaj is set to drop her new album The Pink Print at the end of the year, and the single that's currently creating a huge buzz for her is titled 'Anaconda.' The track features an interpolation of the Sir Mix-A-Lot song 'Baby Got Back.' She unveiled the provocative artwork for the single in July, and the photo caused quite a stir on the internet. It notched over 300K likes on her Instagram page, and it generated all kinds of hilarious memes involving Spongebob Squarepants and even The Lion King. That's the influence Ms. Minaj has on pop culture right now - she drops one pic and the whole internet goes crazy!

Justin Bieber

It's nice to see an Instagram post that gets a ton of likes not because it's overtly sexual, violent or controversial. One of the most popular Instagram posts of 2013 was a heartwarming image that Justin Bieber posted on his feed showing himself and Will Smith. The caption was simple 'Me and Uncle Will' - the post went on to garner over 1.5 million likes. It just goes to show that even with all the scandalous activity happening on the internet, there's a space for good and clean content as well.

Rihanna

On the current scene today, you won't find any music stars bigger or more influential in pop culture & fashion than Rihanna and Beyonce. And while the latter is now married and has a daughter, the former is a self-admitted bad girl who loves to stir up controversy. Rihanna did just that this April when she appeared completely topless on the cover of French magazine Lui in a very risky shoot executed by Mario Sorrenti. The NSFW cover instantly spread like wild fire on the internet, and it's been rumored that the pic was part of the reason why Rihanna's Instagram feed was temporarily disabled.

James Franco

James Franco is a very talented actor, but sometimes his weird off-screen shenanigans tend to overwhelm his achievements as a thespian. He stayed true to his unpredictable character when in May earlier this year, he posted a shocking selfie of himself naked in the bathroom with his hand down his crotch. The picture seemed indecent and pointless, and it was even more surprising that he posted it after already causing controversy a month earlier by trying to meet a teenage girl in his hotel via Instagram. This crotch-grabbing picture created such a negative reaction from the masses that Franco was forced to delete it. For such a public figure, one would think Franco would have exercised some better judgment. One thing is for certain, he knows how to create a media sensation and he is probably not going to change his ways anytime soon.

Jay-Z and Blue Ivy

It's always refreshing to see an Instagram picture that's clean and wholesome but still garners a lot of attention. That's why our hearts were warmed by this picture that Beyonce posted on her Instagram for Father's Day this year. The shot was taken in black-and-white and it was an adorable picture of her hubbie Jay-Z carrying their cute daughter on his shoulders. This is the type of picture that belongs on a Hallmark card and of course the fans loved it. To date, the picture has racked closed to a million likes on Instagram.

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West

There is probably no other couple in the world today that generates more press and social media frenzy than Kim and Kanye. They have the media and popularity game down to a science, and their incomparable appeal and notoriety was on display at their extravaganza wedding earlier this year. The picture above was from their actual wedding ceremony in Florence, Italy and it showed the newlywed couple sharing a loving kiss. Once this picture hit the internet, it created a whole lot of hysteria and excitement, and to date, it has garnered over 2.4 million likes on Kim's Instagram page.

Miley Cyrus

At this point in time, there is probably nothing that Miley Cyrus will do that will shock the masses. In the last few years, she has probably done everything in the 'shock and awe' playbook short of appearing in a sex tape. Earlier this year, she was up to her old tricks again when she posted another topless pic of herself. The hashtag on the picture was #FBF (Flash Back Friday) and it showed an intoxicated-looking Miley wearing a white towel and using her arm to conceal her very visible breasts. For some odd reason, this goofy shot was a big hit on Instagram. It has only been up for 5 months, and it already has over 700K likes on Instagram.

Nick Jonas

When celebrities are looking to create some instant buzz on Instagram, the quickest way they go about doing it is posting up a shirtless picture on Instagram. That is exactly what pop star Nick Jonas did in July of 2013. He uploaded a post-workout image showing his chiseled torso and he captioned it as follows: 'I never do this, but ...Healthy living and fitness update. Post workout picture. #diabeticinshape #2.0.' Of course all his fans loved the pic and it went on to garner over 300K likes on Instagram.

Ellen Degeneres

There are some pictures that shake things up and create buzz on the internet, and then there are others that bring the entire internet as we know it to a standstill. The picture we are discussing here falls in the latter category. Do you remember at the Grammy's this year when Ellen took the star-studded selfie pic featuring Bradley Cooper, Lupita Nyongo, Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts etc. The picture spread like wild fire in a dry forest and it presently has over 3 million retweets on Twitter. Forget Instagram - we can certainly all agree that this picture broke the Internet.
