James Franco has addressed the scandal surrounding his attempt to pick up an underage girl.

'I'm embarrassed,' the 35-year-old actor said on 'Live! With Kelly and Michael' Friday morning.

'I was feeling awkward - I didn't want to come on the show and just feel awkward,'

'I guess I'm just a model of how social media is tricky,' he continued to the hosts.

'It's way that people meet each other today, but what I've learned - I guess because I'm new to it. Youdon't know who's on the other end. You get a feel for them, you don't know who you're talking to. I used bad judgment and I learned my lesson.'

Franco met Lucy Clode, a 17-year-old tourist from Scotland, outside of his Broadway show, 'Of Mice and Men,' Monday and when the star struck teen asked for a pic he told her to tag him via Instagram.

After she obliged, the two began an alleged conversation on the social media site where Franco asked her for her phone number, where she was staying, when she turns 18 and if they could meet up.

Clode uploaded screen shots of their Instagram and iPhone exchanges but before being deleted, they quickly went viral.

'Unfortunately, in my position - I mean, I have a very good life, but not only do I have to the embarrassing kind of rituals of meeting someone, but if I do that, then it gets published for the world. So now, it's double embarrassing,' Franco told the 'Live! audience.

'I promise I won't reveal our text messages,' Ripa joked to the apologetic star.
