John Aldridge was involved in a Twitter row
Former Ireland international John Aldridge has admitted he was wrong to let his guard down in a recent meltdown with a Twitter troll.
Aldridge threatened to send people around to an Everton fan's house last week as he lost the rag on the social media site.
The row started when the Twitter troll baited Aldo with a message saying: 'Vile c**t you,' following Liverpool's 3-1 defeat to Crystal place at Selhurst Park.
That was enough for Aldridge, who responded by asking the fan where he lived. 'Where in my beloved Garston do you live,' asked Aldridge.
Following a brief exchange, Aldridge tweeted: 'Little poshy are we? Ive good EFC mates there that want your address. What is it?'
And he didn't stop there. After repeated efforts to get the fan's address failed Aldridge then lost his cool, tweeting: 'Your not getting it you thick f** are you. Your making a mockery of the club the way you front it and no address!'
Other Twitter users were quick to criticise Aldridge for losing it and threatening to send the heavies around to the fan's house.
On today's Pat Kenny show, Aldridge admitted he lost his cool.
'Sometimes you let your guard down on Twitter and I did. I shouldn't have responded to someone who is not worthy of a response for the abuse they give.
'When Liverpool get beat you get people trying to wind you up, mostly young Evertonians or Man United fans and to be fair you just ignore it. It got really personally and I let my guard down a bit. I shouldn't have reacted. I shouldn't have given the lad the time of day really and I did.
'It wasn't a threat at all if you read what it says. It's a paper that no-one buys in Liverpool anyway so it makes no difference.
'You don't know his address for one. It was just basically to (say) I have got lots of Everton friends, it's a great club Everton and he (the troll) is just one of a bad bunch. Every club has them unfortunately and I responded to him.
'The thing is with Twitter, sometimes you have got to try endure it. Social media is massive in the world now. There is another one that has just come out called Kicca. A lot of former players are on it and it is totally abuse free and you can still keep your Twitter account.
'So anyone who does suffer any abuse you can go on this new app which is going to be really good in the future.'
Aldridge says he has learnt from last week's events and will not be responding to any online trolls again.
'One thing with Twitter, as I said it's great but people hide behind posts and I'm in the public eye,' added Aldridge.
'You can't afford to really let your guard down. Unfortunately sometimes you have enough abuse like last Sunday and in the end I cracked a bit. We are all human, we let ourselves down at times. I shouldn't have done it and given the publicity.'
