Chelsea finally lost a game

Mike Hewitt

Chin up, lads. It's not like Twitter users were revelling in your pain...

There is nothing British people like to do more than bring someone down a peg or two. So when Alan Pardew masterminded Chelsea's first defeat of the season earlier today, the nation's Twitter users were only ever going to react in one way: with unbridled, unapologetic glee.

Jose Mourinho's side are not the most popular team among football fans in general, so their unbeaten charge to what was looking like an inevitable league title had not exactly made them any more appealing to the masses.

And despite Mourinho himself saying all along that he didn't expect his side to go unbeaten through a whole season, there was still an audible sigh of relief across the land when Newcastle beat them 2-1 in today's lunchtime kick-off.

The other noise you could hear was the sound of Twitter's comedians licking their lips and typing furiously. Especially after Mourinho tried to blame the Newcastle ball boys...

Two things will never change- 1. 'Next Year will be our year'-Liverpool fans. 2. 'The best team lost'-Jose Mourinho.

Question: 'Do you think it was Newcastle's club strategy to not give the ball back?' Jose Mourinho: 'do you believe in Father Christmas?'
