Apple TV's YouTube app gets a sorely needed update

The Apple TV's YouTube app is no longer a hot pile of garbage. An update this morning has brought with it a revamped interface (similar to its Xbox One and PS4 apps), recommendations, and better subscription handling. Most importantly, the new app finally gives you access to YouTube's entire library of content -- with a catch. You'll have to sit through ads for some videos. That's not a big price to pay, but it's probably worth training your thumb to skip through ads as you do on every other platform. The new app follows a slew of recent third-party updates on the Apple TV over the past year, which brought a new sense of life to Apple's media box. But until a genuine app store arrives, it's hard to take Apple's commitment to the living room seriously.
