Super

They aren't the first to use YouTube to market the release of a new movie. But, at 2:00 - 2:30pm PDT / 5:00 - 5:30pm EDT this afternoon, the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Director Marc Webb will make some online video marketing history.

In advance of the May 2, 2014 release of the highly anticipated motion picture The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony Pictures Entertainment will host the first-ever film-themed 'Google+ Shoppable Hangout'. The cast and director will give moviegoers the opportunity to join them in the Hangout, answering fan questions and discussing the latest film in the Spider-Man franchise. Fans can submit questions beforehand on social media using #SpiderManHangout.

Utilizing some innovative new Google technology, the Shoppable Hangout will give audiences the ability to pre-purchase tickets to see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 via Fandango, or catch up on the franchise by renting or purchasing The Amazing Spider-Man on Google Play directly from the video chat. The sequel's soundtrack will also be available for purchase at Google Play. Fandango's Chief Correspondent Dave Karger will moderate the discussion. Online video marketers can join the Hangout at 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' - LIVE Google+ Shoppable Hangout.

A Guide to 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' (Spoiler Free)

We've always known that Spider-Man's most important conflict has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that his greatest battle is about to begin. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.

The company that once employed Peter's father and played a role in his parents' disappearance now seems to be behind new enemies that are emerging, all of whom have advanced technology and powers. 'Oscorp was built for a single purpose - to preserve Norman Osborn's life,' says Webb. 'He has a terrible disease, and the wealth of the company has been used to create the company's Special Projects division - crazy solutions to a very simple problem. But Norman Osborn is not an ethical man, and in Special Projects there exist a lot of hidden, dark, nasty things that the rest of us do not want to see unleashed on the world.' If I told you more about the film, then I'd have to issue a 'spoiler alert.'

After launching a new chapter in the hero's story in 2012 with The Amazing Spider-Man, a worldwide hit that went on to take in over $750 million at the worldwide box office, I suspect that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be a case study that online video marketers will want to understand inside and out. And they can start by taking half an hour to join the 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' - LIVE Google+ Shoppable Hangout at 2:00 - 2:30pm PDT / 5:00 - 5:30pm EDT this afternoon.
