Bill Clinton copies Hillary meme in Twitter pic

The Clintons sure know how to embrace a meme.

Former President Bill Clinton has changed his Twitter background to mimic his wife, Hillary Clinton's, famous photo. It depicts a photo of Hillary Clinton, the then-Secretary of State, sitting in front of a stack of documents, looking calm while wearing sunglasses and texting, all while on a military plane.

In Bill's Twitter photo and background, the former president is holding what looks like an oversized iPad, also wearing sunglasses. Both photos are in black and white and are positioned similarly. How meta!

At 9 p.m. ET, Bill Clinton tweeted the photo along with the caption: 'I'm following my leader!' Clinton's updated bio also has a tongue-in-cheek addition: 'meme appropriator.'

So what's behind that original viral photo? It was taken on Oct. 18, 2011, to show Hillary Clinton working inside a C-17 military plane while traveling from Malta to Tripoli, Libya, but it went viral in 2012 through the popular blog Texts from Hillary, which imagined scenarios of Clinton texting with everyone from Justin Bieber to Joe Biden. Hillary's first official tweet in 2013 paid homage to the blog: 'Thanks for the inspiration @ASmith83 & @Sllambe - I'll take it from here... #tweetsfromhillary.'

Last week, the Clintons made the news for another viral meme - a selfie with Jimmy Kimmel, inspired by Ellen DeGeneres' star-studded Oscars shot.
