TubeCast shoots YouTube vids to a Chromecast from Windows Phone

Now that the Google Chromecast SDK is official, the third-party apps are starting to flow. One of the latest is actually for Windows Phone users: TubeCast is a free app that can stream YouTube videos to a Chromecast over Wi-Fi.

The software is a bit bare-bones when compared to the native Chromecast support in YouTube for Android or iOS. For now, you can only search for YouTube videos in TubeCast and start playback. There aren't yet any controls to pause or stop the video, so you'll have to wait until the end of a vid to view another on your TV.

Some reviewers have noticed TubeCast can't find their Chromecast devices on the same network, but temporarily disabling the phone's mobile broadband connection seems to fix that issue for now.

Clearly, there's more work to be done on TubeCast but it's a step in the right direction for two reasons. First, I haven't seen yet any other Chromecast apps for Microsoft Windows Phone. Why should Android and iOS have all the fun?

Second, Microsoft and Google have been squabbling over an official YouTube app for Windows Phone since last summer. More third-party apps to view YouTube on Windows Phone is a poor substitute for an official app, but options such as TubeCast are good to see.
