The Big British Immigration Row: Katie Hopkins divides Twitter after Channel 5 ...


The 38-year-old laid into the Government for using a 'soft touch' to tackle immigration and said hard working Britons have 'had enough' of the issue.The hashtag #BigImmigrationRow was trending on Twitter throughout the two hour debate and Mrs Hopkins' name also appeared on the top UK trends.Some users of the social networking site hailed her for talking 'sense' while others said her views on immigration were infuriating.Some were appalled that she had taunted Muslim commentator Mo Ansar before the show about wanting to dress in a 'black curtain'- a reference to a Burka.

User Andrew Kinsella posted: 'We'd all be better off if Katie Hopkins just disappeared'.Blogger Fleet Street Fox tweeted: '100% of people have had enough of Katie Hopkins. ignore her or SHE WILL WIN'.But Twitter user Gwynne Chipperfield posted: 'Katie, you were superb! Big British Immigration Row'.And tweeter Billy Harvey commented: 'Katie Hopkins talks some sense :)'.However, TV Critic Toby Earle wrote: 'Weird how Katie Hopkins is against immigration when she's from another planet.'And user Harry Payne posted: 'If I was at that debate I would have thrown my chair at Katie Hopkins' face. Twice. #bigimmigrationrow'.Josh Graham added: 'Would someone please tell Katie Hopkins to pipe down! She has no idea what she is talking about! #bigimmigrationrow'.



The Channel 5 debate, hosted by Anne Diamond and Nick Ferrari, also featured Celebrity Big Brother star Luisa Zissman on the panel.The 26-year-old businesswoman faced off against Mrs Hopkins during the live debate and was strongly opposed to her views on immigration.At one point Miss Zissman tried to argue her case for immigration when Mrs Hopkins abruptly interrupted and dismissed her views as 'wiffle piffle'.



After the show finished Miss Zissman took to Twitter to vent her frustration at Mrs Hopkins' views.She tweeted: 'Thanks 4 all your support hard to get point across! Have a headache now must be the Hopkins effect'. Channel 5 revealed today that an average of 850,000 people tuned into The Big British Immigration Row: Live last night.The viewing figures amount to 3.6 per cent of the entire TV audience during that time slot, which includes terrestrial, satellite and cable viewers.
