Tumblr Adds @Mentions to Platform

Joining its social competition Facebook and Twitter, Tumblr announced today it has added an @mention functionality.

Users can enter the @ symbol and then someone's username inside their post. A drop down menu will appear with a list of users closest to your search.

By typing the '@' symbol and then the username of who you want to address inside a Tumblr post, a drop down menu will appear. The user you are mentioning will get a notification on their dashboard and on their activity page.

The move by Tumblr adds to their aggressive push to become a social TV player since Yahoo acquired them. The platform has become a place for shows to engage fans with in-character initiatives, as well as build their fan bases.
