YouTube's New Comment Moderation Seems To (Not) Be Going Well So Far


YouTube's new comment moderation system sounds pretty neat, but it's really going to hinge on how people interact on the Internet. And there's only so much you can do to moderate that. This comment thread is perhaps the perfect example of that.

The top comment-with 75 'thumbs up' as of this writing-on this harmless, adorable and fluffy Maru video is a totally irrelevant ASCII drawing of a penis:


Or maybe it is relevant, considering the general fascination with drawing dick pics online.


I'm sure you all have noticed other failings of YouTube's new comment system, but this was one particularly hilarious example I noticed recently. Maru's top YouTube comments don't usually draw this kind of highly-voted penis references. They're more about how adorable and awesome Maru and his new sister are.
