'Histagrams' Tumblr Imagines History Told Through Instagram

In today's digital age, the biggest newsworthy moments unfold on social networking sites like Instagram. But before social media, news broke the old fashioned way - through word of mouth and eyewitness reporting.

A new Tumblr called Histagrams imagines what pre-social media history would have looked like as told through Instagram. From Napoleon's rise to power to The Beatles' first gig, the project covers some of the biggest events in history through a digital lens.

Histagrams is the the brainchild of interactive designers Gusto NYC and Gavin Alaoen. Gusto NYC told Mashable that the idea came to him while wondering what Instagram might have looked like had it existed five years ago.

'Then I thought 10, 20 years ago, but why stop there?,' he added. 'The purpose of the site is putting a lighthearted/comedic spin on history, while also being able to comment on past/current pop-cultural behaviors.'

Gusto said that he and Alaoen like to exercise their creative muscles with one-off projects like Histagrams. Their other creative endeavors include Gusto's Celebs with No Eyebrows and Alaoen's McKayla is Not Impressed, which spawned the enormously successful meme of the same name.
