It's another installment of the weekly Tubefilter Chart of the Top 50 Most Viewed YouTube Channels Worldwide and Rihanna shows why she's Queen of YouTube.
In the online video world, there's nothing more powerful than a new release from Rihanna. The international pop star recently published a music video for her latest single , bumping her up to the top of the charts with almost 48.8 million views. The Queen of YouTube is followed by the video sharing site's Video Game King. The Swedish gamer known as PewDiePie witnessed a 24% drop in his week-over-week view count, but still scored just shy of 48 million views in the last seven days.
Distribution
In third place, we welcome a newcomer to the Tubefilter Charts, Volvo Trucks. The company's ingenious spot featuring Jean Claude Van-Damme mastering the most epic of splits helped push the Swedish car company's channel up to more than 47.4 million views. The Turkish Phonographic Industry Society's MÜ-YAP channel follows in fourth place. The non-profit organization meant to promote unity and combat piracy in the Turkish music market also saw a dip in views on the week and ended up just shy of 46 million. And Katy Perry rounds out the Top 5. Thanks to a consistent release of new singles, the pop star ended the week with more than 39 million views.
The honor of Top Gainer this week goes to the aforementioned Volvo Trucks. The Van Damme ad, which is now one of the 20 most shared spots of 2013, brought accounted for a massive 16,294% week-over-week increase in views.
BBC Radio 1 also witnessed an impressive uptick in views thanks to Miley Cyrus. The still kind-of-controversial actor-turned-singer covered Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness in BBC Radio's Live Lounge, which helped the radio station's video channel accumulate nearly 13 million views on the week, a 104% increase over last week's numbers.
All in all, the top 50 most viewed YouTube channels accounted for 1,073,827,641 views last week. Here's the distribution of a few of those channels by multi-channel network:
VEVO: 15 channels in the Top 50, with Rihanna at #1. BBC, Fremantle, Machinima, XMediaDigital, Zefr: 2 channels each in the Top 50, with BBC's flagship channel at #24, Fremantle's The X Factor USA at #20, Machinima's SkyDoesMinecraft #22 and XMediaDigital's mashamedvedtv at #30.
