BREAKING: DC Government Employees Watch YouTube Videos At Work

Via Shutterstock. Shocking news from WJLA: City government workers watch YouTube. At work. On the taxpayer's dime! Your dime, if you pay taxes! So many dimes!

Yes, according to the appalling information obtained by the TV news outlet, 32,000 government employees visited YouTube 178,001 times in one day back in September. YouTube! Can you even imagine watching a YouTube video while working? We here at DCist have certainly never done that. Not even in our work dreams.

It gets even more horrifying: Gmail was visited 154,504 times in one day. Government employees are checking their email! Even the website Amazon was visited around 100,000 times. Get the smelling salts I ordered off Amazon!

(But for real, how did the Armenian music site Yerevan Nights get nearly 67,000 hits in one day?)

A representative from Councilmember Mary Cheh's office didn't 'see any harm' in this distressing data, while Anita Bonds said 'Wait until you get home. Don't do it on the public's dime.' City Administrator Allen Lew told WJLA blocking these sites would make workplaces more like a 'compound.'

What do you think, America? Should the citizens of D.C. demand a one dollar per click refund for all the times government employees clicked on Pandora and Twitter? How many protests should we throw? Three? More than three?
