It's another installment of the weekly Tubefilter Chart of the Top 50 Most Viewed YouTube Channels Worldwide and Rihanna takes the crown as the current Queen of Pop.
Top Gainers
First it was Katy Perry, then it was Miley Cyrus, and now the latest feminine force of pop culture to occupy the #1 position on our most viewed weekly YouTube charts is Rihanna. The 25-year-old's music video for her latest single (which, oddly, wasn't preceded by a lyric video) pushed her up from the #16 spot last week and a nearly 60.3 million views.
Rihanna is, of course, followed by PewDiePie, the internet's most popular online video gamer and the most subscribed YouTube channel of all-time. The 23-year-old settled into the #2 spot, scoring 44 million views on the week. Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball is swinging with just a little less momentum this week, as the 20-year-old's view count is down 3% to land at 43.5 million views and round out the Top 3.
Distribution
The Turkish Phonographic Industry Society's channel comes in at #4 with almost MÜ-YAP36.9 million views, while Britney Spears' view count worked it all the way up to 32.1 million views and the #5 spot.
This week's Top Gainer is a robotics outfit that goes by the name of Boston Dynamics and goes by the simple mission to 'build the most advanced robots on Earth, with remarkable mobility, agility, dexterity, and speed.'
The video of their running/galloping/bounding WildCat (which will surely destroy us all in the not-so-distant future) boosted the channel up to an inhuman 11,313% week-over-week increase in views. That equates to 19.4 million views on the week and the #16 spot on our charts.
All in all, the top 50 most viewed YouTube channels accounted for 925,587,097 views last week. Here's the distribution of a few of those channels by multi-channel network:
VEVO: 10 channels in the Top 50, with Rihanna at #1. Machinima: 3 channels in the Top 50, with SkyDoesMinecraft the top-ranked of the network at #15.
