Following our recent Tools piece on how Google+ gif maker Google+Motion can be used for artist campaigns, here's a fresh example of a band that actually use it. Italian rock band Subsonica has, in partnership with global digital agency Isobar, launched a gif competition with Google+. Fans are asked to post gifs on the band's Google+ page , including what Sunday means to them ('Di Domenica' - i.e. 'Sunday' - is the name of their latest single) for a chance to have their gif featured on the band's tech jackets on stage for their upcoming tour. The jackets are made by fashion house CuteCurcuit in London and the winning projections will be chosen by Subsonica to be featured throughout the whole tour. Hannah Ainsworth, marketing manager at Isobar, tells sandbox that this project is an extension of the company's relationship with Google on how products can be showcased in a more experimental way. Earlier this year, Manchester United was part of this, showcasing Google+ Hangouts live at a football game. It's still too early to evaluate the results of the campaign as it's only been live a week, but a quick search on the official hashtag #gifdomenica provides a steady stream of gifs sent to the band. It's certainly an important step for Google+ to have its products successfully used in artist campaigns and opens up the space for more artists to try these types of ideas and incorporate the Google ecosystem in their campaigns. The band currently has 59,264 followers on Google+, showing how a push on the platform can help bands reach out to their fans.
