PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) - After an online crusade against a young woman who painted pictures on rocks in America's national parks, Instagramming pictures along the way, Portlanders came to the conclusion that nature is art, and shouldn't be defaced.

More than 110 people weighed in on the online forum Portland Reddit.

One photo from the woman's now-disabled Instagram account, creepytings, shows a familiar vantage point overlooking Oregon's Crater Lake - familiar except for a massive blue and white painting on the exposed rock in acrylic paint.

Portlanders weighed in on the bigger issues surrounding creepytings' nature graffiti.

Should we respect the rules in place because they're there for a reason?

Should nature be considered art, and left alone?

But what would renowned graffiti artist Banksy do?

'Not that hard to figure out the rule against defacing prehistoric monuments is a good one, otherwise she wouldn't be the most hated person on Instagram,' said one Portland Reddit user, mutatron.

'But seriously, why would someone think this form of breaking the rules is inspiring? It's good to break bad rules, but people need to exercise some discrimination and recognize that some rules are good.'

The woman, identified by hiking magazine Modern Hiker, is reportedly cooperating with authorities. According to the magazine, she also painted the landscape in Yosemite National Park, Canyonlands, Zion and Joshua Tree National Park.

Other Portland Reddit users bemoaned the quality of the art, and emphasized the need to respect nature.

The takeaway: leave no trace when you take to Oregon's wilderness, and if you don't follow the rules, don't announce it to the world on social media.
