BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - The Parker Griffith campaign has corrected a Facebook post linking fellow Democrat and attorney general candidate Joe Hubbard to corruption.
Griffith's campaign put up the Facebook post in the early hours of this morning identifying Joe Hubbard as tied to corruption. Close to 9 this morning the campaign corrected the post to read 'Mike Hubbard' the speaker of the Alabama House who was arrested last week on charges he used his office for personal gain.
The campaign said the mistake was a 'typo.'
Joe Hubbard awoke Sunday morning to see the post and said that he began trying to reach the Griffith campaign to have it corrected.
A little before 9 a.m., Griffith's wife, Virginia, returned Joe Hubbard's calls.
'She apologized profusely for the mistake,' Hubbard said. 'She said Parker would have called but that he was in church in Mobile at the moment.'
Joe Hubbard is in a heated race with incumbent AG and Republican Luther Strange who has charged repeatedly that Hubbard is the bought-and-paid-for candidate of gaming interests, which have contributed substantially to Hubbard's campaign.
Hubbard said Strange' s charges are just part of a smear campaign by Strange to try to take attention away from his many failures as AG.
He downplayed the Facebook post by the Griffith campaign.
'It was a silly mistake, and I won't be distracted by a silly mistake,' Hubbard said.
