'It breaks me': Washington state high school gunman's Twitter account eyed

Many questions still surround the motive behind Friday morning's shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High School in Washington.

A high school student, identified by Fox affiliate KCPQ and the Associated Press as Jaylen Fryberg, walked into the school cafeteria in Marysville, Wash., and opened fire killing at least one person and critically wounding three others, including two of his cousins, before taking his own life.

Fryberg was crowned homecoming prince prior to the shooting, which leave many wondering why a student who was known all around the town and considered a popular student walked into the lunch room and started firing bullets.

Shaylee Bass, 15, a second-year student at the school, said Fryberg had recently gotten into a fight with another boy, over a girl. The other boy could possibly his cousin a family member told Q13 Fox News.

'He was very upset about that,' said Bass, who was stunned by the shooting.

'He was not a violent person,' she said. 'His family is known all around town. He was very well known. That's what makes it so bizarre.'

Marysville Pilchuck High School has many students from the Tulalip Indian tribe. Ron Lukes, a youth counselor with the tribe, said Fryberg was from a well-known tribal family.

'They're real good people, very loving, a big part of the community,' he said. 'Jaylen was one of our good kids. It's just a shock this happened. I've known this boy since he was a baby. It's just devastating.'

Days leading up to the shooting, Fryberg seemed upset and agitated, the Seattle Times reported.

A football teammate of Fryberg's told the paper Fryberg was briefly suspended from the team after getting into a fight with another player who allegedly used a racial slur toward him.

Students and Washington State Sen. John McCoy, both hinted to the Seattle Times Fryberg was having a romantic problem.

An alleged dispute with a student over a girl may have led to cryptic Twitter messages.

'It won't last ... It'll never last,' a tweet read Wednesday. Another tweet posted on Monday said: 'I should have listened. ... You were right ... The whole time you were right.'

Marysville Police Commander Robb Lamoureux said the gunman died of a self-inflicted wound, but he could not provide more details.

Providence Regional Medical Center in nearby Everett said it had three students, two girls and one boy, listed in critical condition with head wounds. Another student, who was transferred to Harborview Medical Center, was said to be in serious condition with minor injuries. A hospital spokeswoman described the victims as 'young people,' though she was unable to provide exact ages.

Police called for a press conference late Friday night to update the media on the latest information, but did not provide specific information into the matter.
