YouTube blogger Alfie Deyes mobbed by 8000 screaming fans at book signing

The 21-year-old became an internet sensation after posting funny videos about every day life


A video blogger who became a YouTube sensation says he is having to turn his book tour into a ticketed event because of the chaos that it triggered.


Up to 8,000 screaming fans showed up at Waterstone's in London's Piccadilly Circus when Alfie Deyes promoted his bestseller The Pointless Book, forcing him to find another way to meet his fans.


Alfie became a smash hit online after posting a series of funny videos about every day life, covering everything from going to festivals to yoga.

He spent the day at the sprawling ExCel centre in east London today, where people who tried to camp overnight but were not allowed, have been waiting since about 4.30am.


Deyes, 21, of Brighton, cannot believe his daily videos, which appear on the PointlessBlog, have turned him into such an internet sensation.


He said: 'The tour is going to have to be a free ticketed tour. The venue will not be announced until last minute.


' I never expected that many people would turn up. It was a shock. I think I got to see about 800 people so we had to put a second date in place.'

Deyes currently has 5,380,000 YouTube subscribers. He began his videos, which includes titles such as Girls Are Confusing , at the age of 15.


The Pointless Book has already topped the Amazon best-sellers list.


It includes a free downloadable App, meaning readers can interact with him as they make their way through the book.
