Twitter ridicules golfer Ian Poulter for his ranting about his nanny getting ...

Booked 6 business seats for my wife & nanny to fly home & @ British_Airways downgrade my nanny so katie has no help for 10 hours with 4 kids.- Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 08, 2014

What happens when a multi-millionaire Ryder Cup winning golfer tweets his frustration at British Airways for getting short changed on his family's business class tickets?

You guessed it, joking memes, angry rebukes and genuine over-reaction.

Rather creatively some Twitter users replaced the hashtag #firstworldproblems with #ianpoulterproblems - comedy gold.

Poulter then decided to engage with the Twitter users discussing him leading his 15-minutes of mockery being extended.

He has one of the largest Twitter followings in golf with over 1.7 million followers.

We have included only a small portion of reactions from fans and the man himself.

Some looked to make jokes regarding Poulter's rather privileged hobby of collecting supercars:

I'd have more sympathy for @ IanJamesPoulter if this wasn't his profile pic... http://t.co/TBfXjyhSU9- Busby MUFC (@BusbyMUFC) August 08, 2014

Others reached for the universally applicable meme:

'It's so hard being rich.'

Quite a few decided to use ever so slightly sarcastic hashtags:

Tonight please spare a thought tonight for Ian Poulter in his tough time.#pushthroughPoults!- Jason Richardson (@JaseRicho) August 09, 2014

Woke up after terrible nightmares about Ian Poulter and his poor family's plight. When will their suffering end? #prayforpoulter- Glen (@Goldfishwars) August 09, 2014

A few decided that the crisis in Gaza needed to be brought in, course it did:

My heart bleeds for you @ IanJamesPoulter. Children are being killed in Gaza and you're crying because your wife has to look after her own 😂😂- Maxbp (@MBPmufc) August 08, 2014

The three time Ryder Cup winning team member remained unrepentant for quite a while in his anger at his treatment by British Airways:

It looks like I'm being a stuck up nob. But what is wrong with getting what you have paid for. I ordered a steak. Sorry you can have tomato.- Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 08, 2014

Poulter attempted to illustrate what his wife had to deal with having four young kids:

1 mum can handle those cases Alex. Its easy.

@ alexdeb01: @ IanJamesPoulter too much with that lot and all the kids http://ift.tt/V9pkoL Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 08, 2014

Showed genuine anger at aspersions made at Katie's abilities at a mother:

Don't think you should bring into question Katie's mothering skills. You can bash me like you do already. She is a brilliant mum.- Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 08, 2014

However, after some light hearted jibing was issued, Poulter seemed to have entered into the spirit:

Hahaha Byron the chef just said if you hit this down the first you might out drive Rory. Hahahaha that's funny. http://t.co/DQqhbPXeA7- Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 08, 2014

And finally showing the complete arc of the twitter trend, he offers the standard 'could have worded this better' tweet to finally put it to bed:

Not sure if you liked my wording on original tweet. Hahaha probably didn't come across as it could have. Oh well some things never change.- Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 08, 2014

Come on famous people, when will you learn that Twitter is not your friend?
