Chris Colfer's Twitter was hacked Thursday, sending fans into a panic after a Tweet was posted claiming that the actor was exiting the show that made him famous.
'Due to personal issues, I have been let go from the cast of GLEE. Explanations will come shortly ... ' the errant Tweet said.
Glee die-hards, however can rest easy - the announcement was quickly proven to be a hoax.
'It appears his Twitter was hacked,' Colfer's rep tells PEOPLE. 'He's on a flight and he will be returning next season. Fans, don't worry.'
In a statement, Fox - the network behind Glee - said: 'We've been alerted that Chris Colfer's Twitter account has been hacked. Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season.'
In 2011, Colfer won the Golden Globe for best supporting actor in a series for his acclaimed turn as openly gay student Kurt Hummel on the hit show.
