YouTube Stars Take Summer Road Trip Guided by Fans

Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart - stars of YouTube as well as the feature film Camp Takota - are taking their show on the road this summer in #HeyUSA, a travel web series that visits a new city every week, its stars' movements driven by fan suggestions on social media.

The pair will rely on tweets and comments to figure out where to go and what to do in three weekly videos, as well as tweets, Instagrams and Vines. They'll also meet up with locals in nearby influencers - and surprise a few superfans along the way.

'Not only do I get to travel the U.S. with my best friend, I get to experience places and things I wouldn't have seen had it not been for the help of our audience,' Helbig said. 'It's a modern day choose your own adventure travel series. It's completely interactive so if it sucks it's not our fault! Perfect scenario!'

The eight-week series is slated to premiere July 1, with three two-to-four-minute episodes rolling out via the Astronauts Wanted website and YouTube channel. The duo will also produce regular content for their respective YouTube channels on the road. Longer-form narratives from their trip will follow in September.

Said Hart: 'When I was told that I was gonna get to go around the country on an adventure with my BFF, I said 'Somebody pinch me!' But mainly because I like getting pinched. This show is going to be so amazing. On YouTube, we're used to putting out content and then getting feedback from our audience. #HeyUSA will bridge that gap.'

The new project was announced Thursday at Vidcon in Anaheim, where Helbig is giving the afternoon keynote.

Along with Hannah Hart, Grace and Mamrie made the comedy Camp Takota with producer Michael Goldfine, one of the first - and certainly most successful - feature-length film to come out of the YouTube ecosystem.
