You've probably heard of Google+. You probably have Google+ via your Gmail account. You've probably heard a lot about why you, or your brand, should be on Google+. You've probably never actually used Google+.
So what's the deal with Google+? Is it the next Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram? Why does your brand need yet another social-media network? I'm here to set the record straight because, yes, your brand should be on Google+ for a very simple reason-and it probably isn't what you think.
Google+ isn't like other social networks. Facebook and Twitter largely affect your brand's presence only on their respective platforms, working in their own ecosystems. That's where Google+ is different. The magic of Google+ doesn't lie in your Google+ profile; it lies in the world's largest search engine, the one responding to more than 2 trillion searches -2,161,530,000,000 in 2013 alone, to be precise-and in Google's suite of products, including YouTube.
A strong Google+ profile, enriched with your brand's well-crafted, relevant content, will put your post in front of, potentially, millions of eyeballs when users search keywords related to your content. Whether you are providing a how-to on packing simply for the ultimate Miami Beach getaway, giving readers an inside look into the escapist life of luxurious travel to Coconut Grove, or offering help on taking care of a nasty sunburn from too much time out on South Beach, your content will appear in search results directly in front of the users who are searching for exactly that topic.
While Facebook's search bar may serve as a window into your old high school classmates, and Twitter search may be the best place to get the scoop on breaking news, Google search is still for everything. 'Google it' is part of the vernacular for a reason: It's omnipresent and used all the time by practically every one. Wouldn't you love for your content to show up in front of extremely relevant users?

Not many things in life are free-but Google+, and its not-so-secret door into an SEO skyrocket, is.
Google+ also allows seamless integration with YouTube, and the online video network's over 1 billion unique users a month, as well as the underused Google Hangouts service.
Recent rumor-filled articles, in TechCrunch and The Los Angeles Times, among others, predicting the impending demise of Google+ as a social network shouldn't dissuade social-media managers and business leaders from engaging their brands through this facet of the massive search engine.
In the end, all social networks will change, ebb, and flow. MySpace is now essentially irrelevant, but it was incredibly important during its time. Don't let the fear of a network's inevitable demise keep your brand from growing while a currently active avenue is available to you.
At the end of the day, if you want great SEO, seamless video integration, and premiere brand status on a platform that few brands have conquered, get on your Google+ account and use it.
