Joel Embiid's Twitter account has made it into the news again, this time for a rogue, deleted tweet about the Los Angeles Lakers.

Four days after being lambasted by trolls for supporting Cristiano Ronaldo during the U.S.-Portugal World Cup game, the former Kansas Jayhawk is fending off more criticism over a deleted tweet that appeared on his account Thursday morning.

Embiid's tweet, sent out at 1:10 a.m. EST (or 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, PST) claimed he was a 'laker.'

This is what @JoelEmbiid's friend tweeted on his account. Hmm. http://ift.tt/1vadsOq

The tweet disappeared moments after posting, and Embiid claimed a friend had been playing with his phone.

Dealing with the inevitable Twitter trolls, the 20-year-old Cameroonian told everyone to get off his case.

😡😡😡😡 back off

Alright, so what is happening here?

Embiid says his friend was fooling around, which could be the case. College kids have been documented in the act of pranking their friends before. It doesn't require a bending of the imagination to think a friend would mess with their buddy on the biggest day of his life.

On the other hand, Embiid is recovering from surgery. Screws were drilled into his right foot last Friday, and it's possible the young man is a little loopy from the wonderful kinds of medication typically prescribed after such operations. Embiid might have had a hydrocodone dream where he bear hugged Adam Silver and held up a Lakers jersey at the NBA draft. After that, all it takes is a half-conscious roll toward the nightstand to tweet that you and Kobe are now teammates.

Or Embiid is a liar who got off a top-secret phone call with Jeanie Buss and sent a tweet revealing the franchise's plans to scoop him up tonight. Some will believe this angle, though I'd like to think if a team did make a secret arrangement with a draft prospect they'd be smart enough to tell him to, you know, keep it secret.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens tonight. If the Lakers make moves and grab Embiid, well, the world will melt.
