The wife of a high-ranking Indian government minister was found dead just days after a fierce Twitter battle with her husband's alleged mistress.
Indian minister Shashi Tharoor discovered his wife Sunanda Pushkar's body in their five-star Delhi hotel room after coming back from a Congress meeting on Friday night, The Hindustan Times reports.
Pushkar was lying in bed, with no signs of a struggle or evidence to suggest poisoning, police said. Tharoor, India's Human Resource Development minister, was the one who alerted the cops.
His wife had spent much of her week involved in a Twitter spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar. Pushkar accused Tarar of having an affair with the minister.
The fight started on Wednesday after several intimate tweets were sent out from Tharoor's official account, seemingly directed towards Tarar.
'@mehrtarar sadly my wife @sptvrock who gave up everything for me found out about my affair with u Mehr,' one tweet from the minister's account read.
'I love you, Shashi Tharoor. And I go while in love with you, irrevocably, irreversibly, hamesha. Bleeding, but always your Mehr (sic),' the tweeter continued.
Pushkar admitted to sending out the tweets herself, but later denied it and claimed her husband's account was hacked. Tharoor has since deleted the intimate tweets from his account.
The couple issued a joint statement on Thursday, saying that their marriage was not on the rocks and that they intended to stick together. Pushkar had apparently been hospitalized for an unknown illness during the week. They said that the tweets were 'unauthorized.'
But tensions mounted as Pushkar continued to pounce on Tarar online, sending out numerous tweets from her personal account.

Pushkar claimed that she had all of the emails and text messages that Tarar sent to her husband. Tarar admitted to DNA India that she did have occasional contact with the minister.
'I met him in April last year for an interview in India. Then I met him in June in Dubai in a social gathering. Yes, I have been in touch with him once in a while on Twitter and email,' the journalist said.
But she denied that she was romantically involved with Tharoor and responded to the tweets by claiming that Pushkar was 'out of her mind.'

Tharoor's son has asked the media to give their family privacy.
Shashi Tharoor was forced to resign from a previous position as Deputy Foreign Minister in 2010 after claims that he and Pushkar worked together to get a stake in the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, Time reports.
During the Twitter feud, Pushkar called Tarar an Inter-Service Intelligence agent and a stalker.
'Isse kehte hain apne hee giraate hain nashemaan pe biljlian (a house is destroyed by its own inhabitants only),' Tarar tweeted.
