Ric Flair spoke with the San Francisco 49ers during a team meeting Saturday night.
(This was not a sentence I anticipated writing when I woke up this morning.)
The pro wrestling legend is apparently very popular with Niners players, so the team subsequently flew Flair up from Orlando to say a few words, take a bunch of pictures and -- we surmise -- say ' Wooo!' a lot. All in all we imagine it was a nice way to spend a frigid night in Wisconsin before playing the Packers.
Which was probably part of the sentiment 49ers right tackle Anthony Davis was trying to impart when he took his phone out of his pocket.
Predictably, Davis was flamed for his choice of words. He didn't back down in a subsequent tweet.
We don't imagine this will have any effect on Sunday's wild-card showdown between the Niners and Packers. An offensive lineman from New Jersey disliking Wisconsin will not shift the balance of the NFC.
Still, it did remind us of Flair, and that one time he enraged the Macho Man by doctoring photos to make it look like he had a passionate fling with Miss Elizabeth.
