Your Google+ Pictures Will Pop Up With Caller ID on Android

If you have a profile picture attached your Google+ account, Android 4.4 KitKat smartphone users will soon see it pop up with caller ID when you're calling.

This is a step toward more easily identifying a caller, from businesses to co-workers, especially if the caller isn't in your phone book. The feature is turned on by default, so if your phone number is listed on your Google+ profile page, this applies to you.

'Coming in early 2014, users who have verified their phone number and have discovery turned on will have their names and Google Profile photos display whenever they call you, or you call them (it's great if a new friend who hasn't been saved in your contacts yet calls you),' wrote Attila Bodis of the Google Caller ID team in a statement posted to Google+.

For businesses, Google matches the numbers to the names of companies and services with a Google Places listing. So a restaurant calls you to confirm a reservation, the restaurant's name will display on your screen. It also looks at the Google Apps domain to identify whether the caller's origin comes from a workplace.

The app overall has a new look and feel, too. The people who call most frequently will appear in the center, so you can contact them even more quickly.
