One of the things I love about Twitter is that it can function as a crude, low-grade email replacement. But you know one thing I hate about Twitter? It sends more unnecessary email than your mom after her second bottle of wine. What the heck is up with all that email, Twitter? For a better experience, turn that nonsense off.
It's an easy fix. Log into Twitter.com and head over to your Settings - click on the thing that looks like a gear. Next, click on Email Notifications. Or you can just go here, lazybones. You there? Whoa, look at all those options!
There are some 21 checkboxes in all, most of which you can and should ignore. Some are things you genuinely may want to know about, but others are just going to junk up your inbox. Do you want an email when someone sends you a direct message? (OK, maybe, probably, sure.) What about when tweets you're mentioned in are marked as favorites? (LOL, no.) You'll also have the option of choosing whether you want to be universally notified on many of these options, or just when its 'Tailored for you.' Twitter doesn't explain what tailored for you is very well, but selecting it almost certainly means less email, and less email is better. Always better.
