Whoever said life was all work and no play had not counted on YouTube's hip San Bruno headquarters, where staff have a putting green and slides, as well as treadmills linked up to computers.

The 550 employees who work at the California headquarters can enjoy nap pods, massage chairs, scooters and food cooked by a top chef.

The open plan space, where staff of all levels work side by side at the world's second largest search engine, is geared up to be a creative environment for sharing ideas.

Nearly every need is catered for at the workspace - for employees and their pets. Many of the staff bring their dogs to work with them every day.

Top San Francisco chef Trent Page is also on hand to serve up tantalizing dishes and snacks, all provided for free.

And, despite the putting green and giant red slide that connects the second and third floors, there is plenty of focus on work as well as play.

Office life can often feel like being on a treadmill, and for YouTubers that is literally the case. The on-site gym has been fitted out with computers on running machines so staff can work while they work out.

The office has been designed to be good to the environment too. An abundance of windows cuts down the need for harsh lighting and grass planted on the roof helps with insulation.

Even the benches scattered around the building have been farmed sustainably - and close by. Many are made from eucalyptus grown in the back yard.

More than 6 billion hours of footage is watched on YouTube, which was taken over by Google in 2006, every month.

But, for those who find working at its creative headquarters a bit tiring, a nap pod with massage chair is on hand to ease away any office tension.
